Seasons are referred to frequently as a passage of time. In-game (for the characters), a season is three months. Three months for four seasons equals twelve months, which is a full year. Here at The-Golden-Butterfly, time in-game is not the same as real-time (time in real life).
Two months in real-time is the equivalent of one season in-game. Therefore, three months in-game are the equivalent of two months in real-time.
We do this because real life can be fairly slow, and a lot of things in the game depend on the passage of time.

As mentioned above, seasons are three months in-game. The seasons go from spring to summer to autumn to winter to spring, and repeat.
Information on age progression with this rule can be found here in the stages journal.
